Electric RC Airplanes

The short form of ‘Radio-controlled Airplane,’ an RC Airplane is a small model airplane that can be controlled remotely. An rc airplane is also termed as ‘rc model airplane,’ or ‘rc aircraft,’ or ‘radio-controlled aircraft,’ or ‘rc plane,’ or ‘radio controlled plane,’ or ‘remote controlled plane.’

Both gas powered and electric RC airplanes are equipped with a receiver and a transmitter. The planes are flown and controlled using radio control with a hand-held transmitter and a receiver within the plane. The receiver in the rc airplanes controls the corresponding servomechanisms, which move the control surfaces based on the position of joysticks on the transmitter that in turn maneuvers the plane.

The rc airplanes are either powered by fuel or by batteries. Fuel powered rc airplanes are equipped with glow plug engine and most often use methanol, or gasoline, or nitromethane, or oil mixture as fuel.  Electric rc airplanes are powered by high performance electric batteries and are termed as electric rc airplanes or electric powered rc airplanes.

There are a myriad of models and styles of rc airplanes available, such as rc park flyers, rc trainers, rc sailplanes, rc jets, pylon racers, rc helicopters, rc autogyros, 3d rc airplanes, etc. Scientific, government and military organizations use rc airplanes for experiments, gathering weather readings, aerodynamic modeling and testing, and even use them as drones or spy planes.

RC airplane flying is growing as popular hobby internationally. The hobby rc airplanes are scale model planes that are exclusively electric rc airplanes, have less power, and require little skills to fly. These planes are pretty cheaper; less than $75 or so. The park flyers and trainers are often considered good for the beginner hobbyists, however jets, pylon racers, helicopters, autogyros, 3D aircraft, etc. are meant for the expert fliers. Park flyers and trainers are low budget easy-to-fly rc airplanes that require fewer skills to fly as compared to those meant for the expert fliers.
